1989 Honda Prelude Si from North America - Comments

"Outstanding ride, which offers a sleek and sporty style/performance of a new car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing major has gone wrong with this car, even after 2 minor accidents.

Speakers were blown, (Upgraded to 220 watt component speakers all around + 500 watt rms sub-woofers) The subwoofers make the car rattle a lot, but this is to be expected in a 17 year old car.

New tires at 198,000.

General comments?

The handling of the prelude is unmatched in any car in its class. The prelude sits very noticeably low, and feels wide, this allows me to take turns at very high speeds and not feel a thing.

No cup-holders, kinda disappointed.

The Prelude has exceptional pep, the acceleration has been able to pleasently surprise all who drive/ride, especially for being 17 years old.

My biggest issue is the gear ratio. I feel like 5th gear is still only 4th, the RPM's only drop slightly from 4th to 5th. Have other people noticed this? I'm thinking with a performance transmission there would be no stopping this car.

Email SeanAP@gmail.com if you know any inexpensive remedies for the gear ratio.

I totally agree with you on the gear ratio's. I think honda should have completely left out first and made second first and 3rd second and so on, but just added nother gear after fifth. I had my 89 lude goin 130 mph, but I was at redline and I don't feel comfortable doing this, specially to an engine that's known for having bad cranks in them. All in all I absolutely love my Prelude and would definitely recommend them to whoever is looking to buy one
