"A unique and thoroughly entertaining vehicle"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Just paint and panel damage on the leading corners caused by attempting to pilot americas finest export down britains typically narrow country lanes.

General comments?

Very hard to find any kind of dealer support or independant specialist in the UK.

Terrific presence, truly unstoppable off road.

I would only consider replacing it with a 'Lambo' LM002 as a V12 would sound so much nicer that the diesel V8.

If you hit someone in any car they face almost certain death. And I would love to see a 'Jimmy' drive through 3 feet of water, completely stock. Hummers are great vehicles and if you want performance you can buy a Hummer Alpha or just get a car. And on luxury, you must not have seen the inside of a brand new Hummer.

The hummer is a good off-road vehicle, but I still think a Suzuki jimmy is better off road. Also although you're almost certain to die if your hit buy any car you're more likely to die if you're hit by a large 4x4 such as a hummer.

There ain't no way a hummer could out off road a Jimmy. A hummer could drag a dozen Jimmys and still outdo it. Most of the time, it's the people who are hit by cars or pickups are the ones who are at fault, not the driver. You are comparing apples to oranges. The only thing a Jimmy can outdo a Hummer in is in the fuel ecomony department. A Hummer is so comfy and roomy, once you drive one, nothing else will do.

With 37x12.5" tires, A-arms tucked WAY up into the body and some 16 inches of ground clearance at the diff you honestly cannot be serious. I had the opportunity to attempt to get one stuck when I was off roading at an off road park in PA. GM was having a demonstration/test day and for the cost of admission and a wait in line I had my chance to try to get one stuck and try I did to no avail. Having a diesel there is no spark some of the demonstrators with the aid of a snorkel drove into the middle of a pond, water just over the bottom of the windshield. Not to dissimilar from this http://tired-iron.mounet.com/fording.wmv I have never experienced a jimmy though. I'm sure it is a real mean off-roader.

What is a Suzuki Jimmy? If you are talking about a GMC Jimmy, the GM sibling of the Chevy S-10 Blazer, it would take extreme modification just to come close to what an H1 can take on. I doubt you could achieve 16 inches of ground clearance, and it lacks the torque as well. I have driven an H1 at a Hummer proving grounds test site. Though I would NEVER purchase one for daily use, they are a blast to take off the beaten path, and few other stock vehicle can touch it.

OK, I just looked up what a Suzuki "Jimny" is. Thanks to the guy who spelled it incorrectly, I assumed he was referring to a GMC Jimmy. We don't have Suzuki Jimnys here so I was quite confused. Now that I know it is basically a modern version of the US Samurai, I can laugh even harder. Having owned a Sammy some years ago, I would agree that they are a lot of fun off-road, but nothing like an H1! They shouldn't even be compared to one another.

That's right, how can one possibly fairly compare an off-road vehicle like the Hummer, designed for army purposes and three times the size of it's "comparison car" to a Suzuki Jimny, designed for civilian use, people who hardly ever are off-road and thereby more geared for on-road purposes as well. I have never driven either vehicle, but have heard very positive things about both vehicles in their own right. But I can clearly see by knowing both vehicles in having seen them that they are in no way comparable. Maybe one can compare a Hummer to a Dodge W200 pick-up and a Jimny to a Toyota LandCruiser, but not a Hummer to a Jimny, that's just not a fair way of comparing, it's like comparing a Ferrari Enzo to an MG midget.

I agree how can you compare a Suzuki to a Hummer... I owned a Suzuki Samurai which is the older version of the new Jimny... I would love to own a Hummer H1... by the way if owning a Hummer makes you 'selfish' than I am a right 'greedy guts'

Hi,

I agree with the guy about the Jimny, the jimny is way better off-road as its smaller, those American's have to have everything enormous and too heavy as well, the jimny would certainly be way better than a hummer off-road.

A Jimny maybe lightweight and small, but so is a Mini. There is no way on Earth that when the going gets tough that the Jimny could keep up. ANY Suzuki does not have the ground clearance or grip. And they topple over easily. Does it even have low range?? The Suzuki Vitara (predecessor to the Jimny) is a popular choice for entry level competition. But to make them any good they rip out all the Suzuki driveline and replace it with Land Rover axles/diff/transfer box/gear box/suspension and so. And they still topple over due to their short and narrow wheel base.

The H1 is designed for EXTREME off roading, not Green Laneing. A Land Rover 90 would probably go similar places STOCK with the right tyres. Apart from that you'll be looking at alternatives like the Mercedes Unimog for off road ability. Also the Mercedes G-Wagon is very good as they have locking diffs front/rear as standard. But they do not have the ground clearance and axle articulation of even a Land Rover 90.

Note how all the GREAT off roaders have their origins as Military or agricultural vehicles. Don't see too many Jimny's being deployed at the front line in the Gulf do you.

One has to appreciate the PINZGAUER 710 OR 712M to understand is far surpasses any 4x4 vehicles including the Land Rover D90, any Unimog or Hummer H1, period. Just ask the British military or Swiss, Austrian, Egyptian or Saudi military too... It is simply...AWESOME. Remember the word, PINZGAUER.

So it`s some sort of a military vehicle, right? But then, so is a Sherman tank- hardly a suitable vehicle for doing the shopping in! O.K., its for off-road use in war zone conditions- but where`s the war? I PROMISE I will remember the NAME too- but I`m not sure that I will be purchasing one in the near future.
