Continuous airbag light problem. I have paid hundreds of dollars trying to find out why the airbag light keeps coming on and all Hyundai can tell me is there is nothing wrong with the airbags in the 2001 Hyundai Elantra. I know this is not true since they did a recall a few years ago for this.
Not worth the headache.
I had the problem of the airbag light coming on in mine too, but the tech found out why with no problems at the hyundai dealership. It was a connection under the driver seat. They fixed it free of charge and I haven't had a problem since then.
I too had my airbag light come on some years back, and it was immediately traced by the dealer to the wiring under the seats having knocked loose.
Last Fall, because I am an original owner of a 2001 Elantra — which, incidentally, I have exhaustively reviewed elsewhere on Carsurvey.org — I received a factory notice of a silent recall for this very problem. Anyone who has paid to have the problem diagnosed should be refunded, assuming their problem pertains to the airbag wiring under the seat. The connections can come loose, which effectively disconnects the airbags. This risk is especially high in the event anything hits the wiring or is shoved or otherwise stored under the driver/passenger seats. Those who are having issues with this connection should contact their Hyundai dealer to see if this warranty service applies.
