2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS 5-door review from North America
"An automobile that I never get tired of driving"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
No problems.
General comments?
The reason I own my 2005 Elantra GLS 5-door is because of the first Elantra that I owned. I promise you I had absolutely no problems with that automobile. I have only a little over 9,000 miles on this one and I am very pleased.
I have put many miles on many cars in the last 27 years, and I am constantly reminded that I have never driven a small 4-cylinder automatic car that is as smooth and comfortable as the Elantra. The ride is comparable to a larger car, yet the handling is very good. The variable-valve timing gets the most out of the engine and the automatic transmission is never confused.
I bought the GLS 5-door because I prefer cloth seats and the look of the GT. The GLS 5-door comes with sport tuned suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes. Hyundai should've made the sport tuned suspension standard on all Elantras from the beginning. With the first Elantra I owned, I upgraded the rear stabilizer bar which can be replaced exactly from the Tiburon, plus the steel end links. See the Hyundai Tuner page.
When I was considering the trade of my first Elantra, I researched quite a few vehicles, and I just couldn't come up with a better value, better quality, or a better performing automobile. The sunroof has been a nice treat as well.
Sometimes the old man who has spent wisely is actually richer than those who act so wealthy.
