1995 Hyundai Elantra Basic review from North America
"A waste of time and money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have replace all the handles twice and still one door is closed solid and I cannot get it to open or come off. I have replaced the drivers door handle every year.
I have replaced the timing belt once at 28,000 miles, when we bought the car. It also broke at 60,000 and blew my engine that the warranty didn't cover.
The rear window brake light catches fire when it is plugged in.
All the part # for parts are always wrong and hard to find.
The frame inside car around the radio and accessories will not stay intact.
The doors have to be pushed in and lifted in order to open, which over time will cause a dent in the door, and almost every Elantra in my home town has the same dents on the back doors.
The transmission constantly need to be changed to keep from it jerking, and I use Hyundai oil.
The heater will never stay on.
The car's alignment will never ever go straight, I have replaced the tires 4 times, thinking that was the problem. I have had several auto shops and body shops try and fix the car and no one can tell me what is wrong and cannot fix it, even after adding kit after kit to make the alignment go straight, and after all the messing around to get the alignment fixed it will now alway shake really hard above 50mph. They do not know what they did or how to fix it.
So you tell me what has NOT gone wrong with this car.
General comments?
This car sucks! I will never buy another Hyundai again! And have contacted Hyundai headquarters about my problems with no response, yet.
Never been able to get more than 300 miles on a tank of gas. I have spent more on the car to fix it and keep it running, than the car cost me at the beginning, which was $8000. And now it is worth well below the retail value now, because of all the problems.
Yes, I have put a lot of miles on the car and it has lasted me a long time, but I also have done a lot of maintenance on the car and then some to make up for all the miles. I had a VW that ran a lot better and it was jimmied in everyway you can think of, and it still did not have as many problems.
