2004 Hyundai Getz GL review from Australia and New Zealand
"Surprisingly well built, practical car, more than capable of satisfying my everyday driving needs"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Steering wheel misaligned, fixed at first service.
Front windscreen washers don't work (wipers are fine, just the washers), will get fixed at next service.
Intermittent problem with battery power affecting the stereo, the clock and the alarm, but not the operation of the car as a car - looks to be my fault for leaving appliances plugged into the cigarette lighter while the car is off :)
General comments?
The performance surprised me (in a good way) especially considering that I just changed car from a 1.8 Holden Astra. The handling is hampered by soft suspension and there's a lot of body roll, and the cornering limit is much lower than that of the Astra although that is where the deficiencies end.
There's a lot of room inside the cabin although the boot is too small, meaning that I have to sacrifice one of the rear seats if I want to move bulky items. The double-folding rear seats are absolutely awesome and a real crowd-pleaser.
This car has been my manual training tool (my first manual car after 5 years of driving only an automatic) and its simplicity lends to it being more of a drivers car than one would expect. There's nothing fancy about this car, but there doesn't need to be. Also, the pedals are perfectly positioned for heel-and-toe, to the benefit of anyone wanting to learn that technique.
