1993 Hyundai Scoupe LS review from North America
"Go Go Gadget Getter"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The dash was sun damaged when I bought it, but I didn't care. I only paid $1,500 for it with 93,000 miles on it, so I threw a dash cover on there.
My fuel filter was a "Hyundai only" or something like that. When it became clogged, I found out that the fuel filter they sold me at the parts stores wouldn't fit because I had a different fuel line going to the filter and a different connector. I ended up using one from an Acura Integra. It was a pain to figure all of that stuff out, but the fact that the fuel filter was clogged is just regular maintenance.
Right after that happened, I had to get new spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap (no big deal).
The oil was changed regularly, but the valve seals starting leaking a little bit at about 100,000 miles.
At 103,000 miles, the driver's side electric window wouldn't roll back up. It would roll down, though. The shop told me that it was a window voltage regulator (a cheap part for an American car). The problem was that I could only get it from a dealership (no junk yards had a Scoupe there), for five times the regular price!
General comments?
This car was by far the best one I have owned so far for a cheap amount of money.
The sporty look of it and the 5 speed transmission are the reasons I bought it. I put performance exhaust, air intake, and other little modifications to get it to be quicker because it had such a small engine. I was surprised, though, how quick it was compared to other cars I raced with it.
Never once did this car die on me or leave me stranded, unlike my previous vehicles. Most of the dinky problems had nothing to do with the motor, transmission, or even the clutch. I was seriously interested in buying the turbo edition after owning this one.
The biggest problem was that Scoupes are too rare. I couldn't find anything for it.
