Nothing so far has gone wrong with it, I love it.
I love how this car rides. When you open and close the doors it sounds solid.
It's got a little pep in it, but not much, but I was not buying for speed.
Very good on gas.
Awesome sound system.
No rattles.
There are only two thing I don't like about this car, but one will go away and the other I'll get use to. The first one is the new car smell, it gives me a headache and the second is the seat is up too high for me, but I'm used to nice low seats so I'll get used to that.
WHAT!?!? I LOVE the smell of new cars. In my Magna I try to keep the smell as long as I can!
I also own a 2001 Sonata. I just got notice in the mail yesterday about a recall. It has something to do with the air bag light being on. It will effect the side air bags going off - make sure you call your dealer. My air bag light has been on for a few months, now I know why. The car didn't start on me a couple of times - I had to jiggle the wire to the alternator and then it turned on just fine. Also, both my headlights went out after a year and three months (not at the same time, but close enought). After all this, I WOULD BUY ANOTHER HYUNDAI UNTIL I CAN AFFORD SOMETHING IN AT LEAST THE 30's (thousands). It's a big car comfortable car for the price. It runs well, and is good on gas. The sound system is pretty decent too. When I first got it people thought it was some kind of new luxury car and didn't even think it was a Hyundai. I personally never thought I would get one. It's was the best choice for the money ($15,500 for a 2001 in Sept. of 2000). I would like to get a 2002.
I am very unhappy with my 2000 Hyundai Sonata. I've had to replace the transmission, my headlights have gone out alternately at least six times. They have replaced the alternator. I've had to replace the brake drums and yet, there is still a squeal noise coming from the brakes. The major recurring problem are the headlights. At this time they are both out. I owned a Hyundai Elantra previously and had no problems with it except fogging of the windows. To add to this the dealership took over three weeks to replace the transmission and it didn't go past second gear. When I picked up the car from the dealership the car had external damage to the front fender where someone had driven it into a wall, and they never told me about it! They fixed the damage, but I am still appalled at the poor service I redeived. I would never buy another Hyundai again.
Hi there. I also have a 2001 Hyundai Sonata GLS. I have had it a year and a half now and I can't keep it out of the shop; it only has 33,000 miles on it. First let me say Sonata's are nice looking cars and cheap. The first day I bought my car the headlights were not hooked up and my interior lights started blinking off in on while I was driving. This was a real pain considering I did not realize this until I wanted to come home from work that night. The second time my car went into shop it was because my A/C was fading in and out. The service department said that my compressor was freezing up and that's normal. Well sorry that's not normal. The third time my Sonata went into the shop was for a modular that has to do with the keyless remote and every device that lights up in the car. I turned my car off and took out the keys and my headlights, brake lights, instrument panel lights, and console lights (the D, N R P lights by the automatic shifter) Now I am to the fourth time my car has been serviced. This time my driver's side window which is electric would not go up all the way. It lacked a half a inch or so, you know just enough for your car to get soaked on the inside if it rained. Well in the process of fixing that they ran my battery down which they said had a recall on it. Since I did not have an appointment they did not actually fix the window they forced it up. So, I did not use my window for three days and some how it was fixed or so I thought. One week later my car goes back into the shop because my driver's side window will not go up at all. It's all the way down and that was the fifth time my car has been in the shop. The sixth time my car went into the shop was because of the "malfunction light" came on. It ended up being a bad O'2 sensor which also has a recall on it, but I never receive a notice. This past week my car has been in the shop three times for the "malfunction light" (it's the one that says "check" that's suppose to come one once you crank your car, but should go off within a few seconds). First time they said they did not find anything wrong so they reset the light, the next day it went off again and they replaced the o'2 sensor again (that's twice with then 4 months) and now again it in the shop for the "malfunction light". I'm still waiting on the answer to the problem this time. So, that's nine times in 18 months my Sonata has been in the shop. Well that's all I have for now. Far as the motor and transmission they are doing great!
