2005 Hyundai Terracan review from Costa Rica
"Extreme power on plastic"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Broken power steering pump at about 150 km, probably my fault due to excessive off road testing (I was really exited to drive my brand new car and I drove it carelessly trying to reach its limit). Dealer replaced it with no questions, but delayed for about 2 weeks.
Nothing else has really bothered me since then.
Generally the all made plastic design lacks strength and off road requirements.
General comments?
Its 2.9 TDI engine is full of never ending power! It has 160 Hp and its acceleration is impressive considering it is a diesel truck. I once drove it up to 180 km/h at the highway with absolutely no trouble. Again its capability as a off road vehicle are considerably good, its engine and suspension are really reliable, but it has excessive plastic made parts dedicated to protection (compared to my old Mitsubishi Montero 91 TDI the Terracan is left behind in the off road comparison).
It is very comfortable to drive and engine noises are not noticed until reached 140 km/h. Also it is designed for 7 passengers and comfort is remarkable.
