Electrical went haywire 3 hours after driving it for the first time:
High beams ejected the CD player. Heater dimmed lights. Lights flickered on panel non-stop. Couldn't use both heater and cruise at same time.
Each time I stopped for gas the car wouldn't start easily. Trying to turn the car over to start had a distinct sound of a fly wheel was missing teeth.
I was not given road side assistance. No one would pick the car up so I had to drive it the way it was to a local dealership.
I was not given 100 per day while on my trip, or any user vehicle to drive while my car sat at the dealership.
I was not offered a way home.
I bought the extended warranties and all the luxuries, but when I returned the car to the closest dealer, three days after buying it and driving it long distance, I was stranded. I was told by customer service, the dealership and roadside assistance that was "my problem". I have not seen the car, nor the money I paid for the car since.
I paid on the car I only had for three days, and the old car that I luckily didn't sell back home, plus insurance on both until I went bankrupt nine months later. The whole thing destroyed my credit. I couldn't get a decent deal on a car now if my life depended on it.
I called every person and number I could find for help, but kept being told someone else could help me or that they would get back to me and no one ever would. Even my lawyer could not find a true owner of these cars to take responsibility. It seemed very simple to me when I asked for one of three things... a car that works, for my car to be fixed and shipped back to me, or for my money back. But the Hyundai's lawyers only response was to offer me 1,500.00 to go away. I finally got a letter 6 months after dropping the Tiburon off to be fixed, saying the car had been totally restored and repaired and for me to come "pick it up"! By then I didn't even have the means to feed my family, never mind fly there (four states away) and drive it back!
Hyundai has been stalling in court now for almost 4 years. There appears to be no justice.
Hyundai does not stand behind their cars and obviuosly does not have any type of regulating standards when each car is built. They also, from all that I had read, have no intention on ever backing any of the expressed, implied or extended warranties.
I'm sorry about all your problems and I feel your pain. My Eclipse has ruined my financial status same as your Tiburon.
Wow.
I have to say that I am extreamly disapointed in hyundai.
I presently own a 2002 elantra GT with 100 000km
So far, no big problems.
I am the black sheep since my family is honda/acura happy (best inline4 cars in the market)
Before buying it, I read all the reviews here.
Found many negative due to delearship and early manifacture defects provoking early death to the clutch.
I bought mine used and will only take it to a local mechanic that I trust.
Depending on states and location, there maybe some OK delearships, but I still would not risk it lol.
Dad pushes me to get trade it in for the 2005 and enjoy the warranty, but HELL NO...
I eint no Acura Blainville VIP customer so they will only eat me alive.
It's a shame, hyundai has come a long way and can offer fantastic reliable cars.
I can only wish that you will get justice and get something back from them.
Good luck
