1998 Hyundai Tiburon FX review from North America
"I would only recommend this car to anyone willing to pay lots for repairs, very disappointed"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Since I purchased this car, almost immediately things started flying apart. First the voltage regulator in the alternator went, so I took it back to the dealership. I think their mechanics got their licenses out of a cereal box because I spent over $200 for them to tell me it was the battery, which was brand new. So after I found out it was not the battery and it was in fact the voltage regulator in the alternator, I got a new alternator and fixed it myself. So very poor service from the dealership on this occasion.
After the alternator, went the flex pipe on the exhaust, no big deal, but it cost me $250 for the part. Obviously, I fixed that myself as well.
After that, the plug wires went and it costed me $110 for those as well.
Then the biggest problem, all four wheel bearings went. The car is now sitting in my driveway until I come up with $700 to fix those (parts and labor included).
The car also will not start as quick after a fill up. I had the dealership check this out and they cannot figure out what the problem is, but I think it is the vent on the fuel filler neck. And occasionally you have to fill the car up slowly or it will spit back at you.
General comments?
I have had this car for only three months and I have already forked out over $1000 on repairs. Not only that, but the dealership would not offer me a warranty when I bought it because they said it would be pointless because it was in such good condition. Pf!! Ya right!
Other than the repairs, when running good, this car has a lot of potential and gets a lot of curious looks from other drivers and people on the street.
