2004 Hyundai Tiburon GS review from North America
"Gorgeous body style, Incredible value."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
No failures to report.
General comments?
Great handling, decent, fairly composed handling on most surfaces.
Smooth engine, great MPG, decent seating position with a real "in the cockpit" feel.
Nice dash layout.
Very easy to use control stalks and stereo controls.
Rear seat pretty small so inhabitation by anyone over 5'5" is out.
Tons of standard features including: Keyless entry, ac, cruise control,p/s, p/b, p/w, p/l, heated p/m :) and foglights.
Even with the 2.0L Beta II Engine, which went to CVVT (constantly variable valve timing)for 2004 the engine offers great performance for its size.
138HP and 136 ft/lbs torque.
I average 30 city-34 hwy mixed driving.
Smooth performance under 3000 Rpm. Engine does get a bit boomy over 3000 Rpm but nothing bad.
I wish it didnt run at 3250 (usually 2900-3000 is the norm for most cars) at 70 Mph but it has alot of top end pull as a result.
Excellent brakes..not touchy, perfect modulation and very progressive (Non-ABS), but available as an option along with moonroof.
Hvac control dials are buttery smooth, and deliver plenty of warm or cooled air.
Tech Note:
Don't forget to remove the clutch slave cylinder "delay valve" (V6 models included) to prevent premature clutch wear.
Don't know why Hyundai even uses this part even though its supposed to improve clutch smoothness but does nothing of the sort.
Any "spirited" driving will slip the crap out of the clutch and wear it out way before its time.
It also prevents you from speed shifting because the clutch action is delayed.
My honest advice: remove it and the little spring it attaches to for a big improvement in clutch operation.
The process is easy to do, and will save you a great deal of headaches according to other fellow Tiburon owners from 2003 and on.
Ive done this mod myself, and its every bit as great as they say it is.
