2005 Hyundai Tiburon GT from North America - Comments

"A fraud made by Hyundai"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I got a problem with clutch, took the car to the dealer and they request authorization from me to inspect the car at $95.00 per hours and will take 5 hours of work to tell me that the clutch has gone bad and was my fault because poor driving habits, they now want $2000.00 to repair a car that has only 19,000 miles and supposed to carry a 5 years 60,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty. if I don't have the repairs I'm still stuck with $475.00 bill for checking the car, calling Hyundai customer service is no help, they are the most rude people I ever talk to, the dealer was no help, they only care about you at time of purchase, I went to many websites and found that many people had same problems with the clutch as I did, there is even a class action suit in CA in regards to the 2003 Tiburon, My advise to anybody is to check other cars and warranties because HYUNDAI DOES NOT HAVE AMERICAS BEST Warranty as they claim to have.

General comments?

Have you met with the DPSM with Hyundai Motor America that denied the warranty claim? try asking for a "goodwill" repair or else get the dealer to trade you out and into a new one with nothing out of pocket.

I'm VERY THANKFUL for this site. A year ago I was literally about to walk out the door to pick up a new 2006 Tiburon when I happened on this site and read all of the warranty NIGHTMARES people were having with getting Hyundai to honor the warranty. Having been thru that with Dodge, I wasn't ABOUT to buy another car from a manufacturer that refuses to honor the warranty. I bought a Ford (which I've owned a bunch of and never had a second's trouble with) and I'm very thankful for you guys sharing your experiences. Reading about your headaches probably helped me avoid some.

In defense.. Hyundai has been good to me. I even bought not One, but Two of them from the Weston dealership that was spoke about earlier. They have the BEST Service guy I have ever dealt with (his name is Ernest) and I have dealt with many many dealerships. One complaint doesn't mean the dealership is "The Worst". I think mostly it's the "MISUNDERSTANDING" of the owner and not knowing the true warranty and what it means or covers. I have the 2004 Tib and 2006 Sonata., I just LOVE them both. The Tib has 58000 miles with a Auto (Not Stick) and I have had NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. I do agree that the Clutch could be bad in the 2003 model which I do hear a lot about. Hyundai and the Weston dealership are GOOD by me.

and that's "My" opinion.

Drive safe.

To last commenter: It's when you have car problems that you first notice whether you are dealing with a good or bad dealer. So long you just hand your cars in for routine maintenance and the dealer simply takes your money, he's happy. He sold you a car for a profit and you are now generating even more profit for him paying $130/hour for routine tune-up.

Then see your dealer transform from the nice guy-next-door into a werewolf when you start cutting into his profit margin, hassling him with warranty claims and tying up his staff handling all your claims. I've been there and seen the transformation. Even if I had real claims and they were clearly within warranty conditions.

So your experiences are probably irrelevant. You don't know a dealer before you start cutting into his profit margin. A dollar spent on you is a dollar less in the profit margin, some dealers think so.

If its not to late just thraten them with a lawyer unless you told them you were racing. I have a problem with my clearcoat on my hood and they don't want to fix it. so I got some appointment with some guy and if taht don't work I'm taking it to court. and also they replaced a mastercylinder on my car and didnt ask me to pay any thing so i dont know

I had the clutch go out on my 4cyl 05 Tiburon too, at 15000 miles. The "bumper to bumper" only covers "non wear items" which are only covered to I believe it was 12500 miles. Tiburons are known for having horrid clutches. I still LOVED this car, and wish I kept it. My advice, buy one... and put a stage 2 clutch in immediately.

I own a 2005 Tiburon with 70,000 miles and have never had a problem with the clutch. I suspect you rode the clutch or simply don't know how to drive a manual transmission equipped car. A car manufacturer should not be held liable for a driver's inexperience.

I bought my 2005 6-cyl Tiburon new and have had no issues with the dealer honoring my warranty or getting repairs done in a timely manner.

I just took it in for what I thought was a hose leak and ended up with a new water pump (free) and a new timing belt (charged for the part only, not labor).

I LOVE my car, and intend to keep it even if it becomes a second car.

The price of low profile tires was a surprise to me, but that's what makes it SO much fun to drive.

It looks to me like '03 & '04 Tiburons with the 6 speed transmission had the most problems with premature clutch failure.

They could offer a 100 year - million mile warranty and it still wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on if they refuse to honor it.

Shame on every manufacturer that looks for excuses not to honor legitimate warranty claims.
