2005 Hyundai Tucson review from North America

"This vehicle has handling, power, economy, value, and an excellent warranty. You can't beat that!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing yet.

General comments?

We bought this used. We were going to buy a 2006 Tucson new, but they were over $17k that was a bit over our budget. So we just decided to get one a year old and this one only had about 10,000 miles which is still fairly new and was right under $15k. If I was going to buy a Santa Fe I would have had to buy an older one because I could not afford them new or under 2 years old. However the Tucson is still big enough for us and it meets most of our standards, and I have loved it since I test drove it the first day I bought it.

It's an SUV, small SUV I should say. However it drives like a car and handles very well on sharp turns with only a little body lean. If I went faster on the turns It can flip, This car has a high rollover risk label on top of the sun visor. I'm very glad Hyundai designed the Tucson. It drives just about the same as the new Sonata which my mom just bought.

The seats are comfortable, but lack of arm rest for the driver and front passenger. However I can just rest my hand on the stick shift.

The back is roomy as well, even for taller people. Both my kids are 5'10 and 6'1 and have rode in the back plenty of times and on long trips and have not ever complained that they were uncomfortable. the back seats can also fold down for more cargo space. It also has a roof rack for even more cargo. It came with the car when I got it. If I bought the new Tucson I don't think it would have came standard.

I have a good view on the road and behind me from my side mirrors, but if I have to back up I really have to look around very carefully so I don't bang my vehicle, or worse run over a person. The back window is very small which is why it's a little hard to back up. This is really the only issue I have on this vehicle.

At first I thought this engine was kinda small for an SUV. Its only a 2.7 V6 engine, and I'm glad I did not get stuck with the 4 cyl. However after I first drove it was like having a bigger and more powerful engine than a regular 2.7. The transmission also works very well with it. Shifts nice and smooth.

My Chevy Blazer had a 4.3 6 cylinder which was powerful but underpowered and I never got the engine to rev pass 3500 rpm and did not drive anywhere close to good as the Tuscon. On the Tuscon the acceleration is more smooth, quick and hardly has any lag from the transmission compared to the Blazer.

It also does not have the loud tire/road noise inside the cabin when your only going 25mph which is what my Blazer had. However I still have it on the Tucson, but I do not hear it until I go past 55mph, but it is not a big of deal to me.

Other than the road noise the handling on bumps, potholes, and cracks on the road is better than average.

Its been pretty reliable so far. It has about 45,000 miles on it and never had any problems on it. On my Blazer it started giving me problems at about 20,000 miles. Hyundai has come a very long way from being the worse vehicles ever made to one of the best vehicles ever made. That seems very awesome and very odd to me.

Since I bought the Tucson I now get better gas mileage. I mostly get about 24mpg which is 10 more miles per gallon than what I got on the Blazer, but this Tucson is only FWD and my Blazer was 4wd which is maybe why I'm getting much more gas mileage.

The warranty is also unbelievable even though I never had any problems so I never had to use it, but 10 years 100,000 miles is probably the best warranty you could ever find out there. I bought it used and now have 45,000 miles and still have more to go with the warranty.

That's all I have to say.

Thank you everybody for taking the time to read this.

- Vinny.
