2003 Infiniti G35 Coupe Sport review from North America
"VERY unrefined, cheap interior, not smooth, looks good, but get the automatic"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
-Transmission gears whining
-Clutch pressure plate failure
-Seat belt fraying (warranty)
-Rear axle clicking (warranty)
-Plastic piece on seat control broken (warranty)
General comments?
On paper, this is an excellent car. In reality, the G35 needs more refinement. The car has a huge amount of road noise. The ergonomics of the car, such as the stereo controls are placed in a strange position, as though the car was designed for right hand drive (it was).
Given the problems with the clutch, transmission and other drivline related problems, I can't wait to get rid of the car. There is a large amount of driveline noise.
The dealer service department needs improvement.
The engine has lots of torque with a flat powerband which is excellent, but isn't very smooth when compared to the BMW 3 330. The transmission feels notchy. The shifter likes to vibrate like crazy on these cars. Cheap interior.
Excellent handling and very strong Brembo brakes. The car also looks VERY good.
With 280 horsepower and 270 pounds of torque with rear wheel drive, the car looks great on paper, but in reality, it isn't refined enough. It feels as though Nissan designed and built these cars on a monday morning with a bad hangover. I really miss my 2001 Acura CL-S (And I'm a car guy- that's how bad this car is).
The newer 2006 cars are better, with better interior materials for the doors and centre console. Get one of those in an automatic, and you're much better off.
I'm going to be trading this 2003 piece of junk for something more refined and smooth, perhaps a BMW 3 series or Acura TL, maybe even an S4.
Very dissapointed with a car I've been looking to own for a long time.
(NOTE: I purchased the car used from a business associate of mine. The car is local, never been crashed and bought/serviced since new from our Infiniti dealer. The car is mint, so that's not the problem.) Don't buy one!
