You couldnt ask for a better affordable car, got it for 6 grand about two years ago, NOTHING has gone wrong with it, just normal wear and tare issues, interior and exterior still look new, seats are super comphy.
The 3.0 litre engine is pretty quick for a 4 door car. One thing that was not good on the car was original tires, I replaced them with 2004 G35 Wheels and tires, it takes turns and handles MUCH better, not to mention it looks like a diff car!
Visibility with stock headlights is very poor, I bought an HID kit off ebay and that solved that problem.
Besides my key breaking in 1/2 everything has been going great with the car!
I would HIGHLY suggest you buy one if your looking to spend under 10 grand on a car!
Well, I'm definitely glad that your experience with your I30 has been satisfactory. I am definitely in the market for a used car 10 grand and under as we speak. Unfortunately for me (or fortunately depending how you look a it), I paid $6500 for a (J) 30 about this same time last year and it was a complete bomb. Everything from the cd player, transmission, and engine had issues. And the most annoying thing was that the right side headlight would cut on and off at its own discretion. Everytime I would get pulled over by the police, and get a ticket for my headlight, I always asked them to hang out for a few minutes in case it happens to come back on.
To make a long story sort, I will go to my grave thinking that all old Infinitis are pieces of garbage. I am glad however, to hear that you are still enjoying yours after 2 years.
By the way, If you ever get a chance test drive the new Infiniti M45, it is hands down the best car in the world as far as technology and interior ergonomics are concerned. It is truly the Infiniti that blows Mercedes and Lexus out the water. Thanks for reading...
Glad to hear you are pleased with your I30, as I just bought a '97 I30T today. 10 yrs old and 100K miles and looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Drove it tonight before I read your comments and agree with what you said about the headlights. Thought I was going blind at first. I definitely have to do something about those headlights. I take for granted that the HID kit you refer to is for changing from Halogen to Xenon? The kits I saw don't guarantee fitment, so do you have any recommendations?
Car is real comfortable and you could eat off the engine it's so clean.
You want to get HID's maybe off ebay... I believe the bulbs you need are 9005, HOWEVER the be3st thing to do is buy DS2 headlights off ebay. Real HID's come with a Ballast and than the bulb, about 150-250. The DS2 isn't a perfect fit int he assembly, but if you put a little rubber / calk into the piece that screws aroudn the headlight it is a good tight seal. but HID's DEFF fix the problem!
I'm glad you like yours. I just got mine at an auction, a 1998 INFINITI I30 for $4,300.00, and I'm in love. The engine runs great, very quiet and smooth, and the interior is also very nice; the leather is in great condition, very comfortable.
The second day I got mine, I tinted the windows, installed a Pioneer DVD player, a remote start alarm, and a 2 way security alarm on it, and I'm loving it.
I don't have the problem you guys have my front lights, which are great. The fog lights help too!
Can anyone help me though, as I want to buy the owners manual. That's the only thing it didn't come with...
You can email me clumzy@tmail.com
Bought the car over 2 years ago with 133K miles; it's now up to 160K with 1 minor incident and a failed smog check. The incident involved the alternator which stranded me and cost $400; smog check fix also $400. I bought the car for under $4K so I still feel I'm ahead of the game (can resell it for about equal price). It gets about 23MPG and blends well in traffic. For the price, you can't get much better and if you're willing to endure the minor annoyances, it sure beats making $400/mo car payments...
The person looking for the owners manual. you can get it from here:

Also I'm looking at buying an Infiniti 1996 with 145k miles on it. It's pretty cheap. I can get it for $2000. I hope nothing goes wrong with mine.
Also I have a question. When you change the CD player with a Pioneer CD player, instead of the original Infiniti CD player, does it lose the quality of the Bose sound system??
