"A high performance, but no resale value with very costy parts!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I was driving on the road and all of a sudden I heard a loud rattling noise from engine. I took it to my local mechanic and he did an engine diagnostic and he couldn't figure out the problem, the next day I took it to INFINITI, and they charged me $600 for diagnosing the car for hours and said "We need more time to figure out, it could be possiblilty of timing chain" Cost's $2600 for timing chain!!! Ughh, plus 23 hours of labor cost at $80 per hour.

I went and donated my car to a scrap yard!!

Also to engineers of Infinti: "DID YOU FORGET THE CUP HOLDERS?"

General comments?

This car is really really fast, all my friends love it, it rides better than some Mercedes and Lexus. However I don't recommend anyone to buy a NEW Infinti cuz they doesn't hold their resale value, it's better to save couple more G's and buy a Lexus or Benz cuz they hold their value and are more reliable!

You should'a bought the car used you'd a saved a bundle. If you think the Q45 is expensive to repair try dealing with the Constant A/C failure in the Lexus or try buying parts for any Merc or Bimmer when they fail. Don't lose sight of what the pre 1997 Q is, world class performance and you gotta pay to play. If you want a free ride buy a Camry, if you want a killer car find a low mileage 93-96 Q45t. Go price some parts on a BMW "M" car and you won't be singing the same tune.

I purchased my 1991 Q45a in March of 1996. Wow what a great car. I have experienced excellent reliability and I find the parts prices to be in line with any other car. Prior to purchasing the Q45 I owned a 1993 Ford Ranger truck and the parts and labor were about the same. Since I own a Q with the active suspension, there are items not contained in a "regular" car. This certainly adds to the expense, however I have had very little trouble with the hydraulic suspension. I love my Q, and will drive it until the wheels fall off. I fail to understand how it is cheaper to purchase a new $20,000.00 to $30,000.00 car, than it is to maintain my present car. Yes, I have had some rather expensive trips to the dealer, but they always fix the car right the first time, I get a loan car to drive while mine is being repaired, and every time I get the Q back, I am happier to have it than almost any new car I can afford.

Just purchased "91 Q45a" with 23,000 original miles. The car sat in a garage for 12 years. I have driven every luxury car out there and this is a fine specimen. Very fast and drives like the big body Benz. I have never purchased more car for less money than this particular animal. Love it...

For the one who purchase the Q45 that sat for 12 years; you are so lucky. I have a 1991 Q45, and wish the my pop had taken better care of it. I always say the Nevertheless, it is a great car, parts can be up there in price, but, there are junk yards and none dealer parts that are just as good. There are even some Z28 parts that fit the Q45. The only thing I worry about is the timing chain guides going bad because they are made of plastic with is the only problem not the chain itself. Any engine or transmission heating problems can be helped with the new sync Tech oils. And yes, I know the comments about the Q45 was made two years ago.

I purchased my 1992 Q45 for $2600.00 on 11/21/06. When I saw it I did not know what it was. I just liked the car for some reason. I really didn't notice it was a Q45 until about a week after I first saw it. The car was at this local dealer and it was dusty and wasn't that appealing to me, but it was something about this car that kept making me come back to look at it. I finally test drove it after reading some reviews and I have been sold ever since. Yes, the parts are expensive from the DEALER. All parts are expensive from the dealer. So far I've invested $900.00 for normal wearing of certain parts. The paint job was VERY GOOD!!. Once I waxed it it was beautiful. When I went back to the local dealer I purchased it from he couldn't believe he had sold me such a car for the price. He was not familiar with the car and its specifications... too bad. I was going to purchase a used 1998 BMW 740i and I am glad I didn't. I would have been paying a car note and maintenance upkeep at the same time. Any money I put into this vehicle only makes the vehicle better. The interior was immaculate. The the front door speakers and the motorized antennae are not working properly blown. This is actually the first foreign car I have owned and I see why some people will not drive American (smile). I must say this-before you buy do some research and be sure this is what you want vs. other vehicles on the market.
