1999 Isuzu Amigo S Sport 2D review from North America

The clutch went out in less than 40,000 miles.

Back speakers went out at 50,000 miles, front ones at 58,000 miles

After market cruise control line came off and cracked the spark plugs causing the car to die ever time you took your foot off the gas pedal. Not good when you are doing 70 mph on a highway!

Bad O2 Sensor.

With the exception of the few minor problems I have had with the Amigo, this is the best all around small SUV I have ever seen. The body style (I have the soft top) is very unique and draws attention, but different enough that you don't see them all over the place. Living in Florida you don't have to worry about cold weather and this car LOVES the sun! I've spent many a spring, summer and fall days driving around with the top off loving every minute of it.

I purchased my 99 Amigo in February of 2000, brand new as it rolled off the delivery truck. I added the cruise control and running boards to it after market to make driving long distances and getting in and out of it in a skirt easier. I also put in a CD player and got rid of the factory cassette player before it ever left the car lot.

Now, 6 1/2 years later the car is still in excellent condition mechanically and physically and it is the perfect size to haul the supplies for my many home remodeling projects (it fits a 36' standard size bathroom vanity perfectly!).

It's a shame that Isuzu got rid of this model. If available, I would go out and purchase a 2007 model today. If you find the need to get a fun, run-around-town kind of vehicle, I would HIGHLY recommend the Amigo!
