I have had multiple problems with this SUV. When I first got it I had problems with the wheel bearings. At 32k the transmission started acting up and shifting hard. It was the mode switch,
at 49k I found transmission fluid in the driveway and took it back tot he same dealer. Once again it was the mode switch. Not covered under warranty. Explained to dealer I already had this issue, obviously a defective part. Dealer agreed, but stated it has been more than 12k so not covered.. sorry!
After reading all the other posts..It's obvious this is a common malfunction.
I like the design, but not all the hassles.
The mode switch on my '01 Rodeo went out at 62000 miles. This was not covered by warranty and cost $375. During the repair the dealer broke some cable which I'm not responsible for. They glued it back on for the time being.
Reading various posts on the Internet, I'm now considering selling my Rodeo and buying a less defective vehicle.
This switch should have been covered by the warranty or should be recalled as many owners are experiencing the same problem. This electrical component which controls the transmission is not a wear and tear part like the brakes, etc.
Will not buy another Rodeo or Isuzu again!
