2005 Jaguar X-Type Sovereign review from UK and Ireland
"Disappointing customer service; could do better"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Clutch failed at 32000 miles. Before the failure I felt vibration on the clutch pedal when it was depressed.
The problem came more severe when stuck in heavy traffic; I was unable to move out of gear, the clutch was still engaged and the car was creeping forwards despite the pedal being flat to the floor. Managed to select gears after pumping the clutch pedal several times, and continued my journey in heavy traffic.
Whilst concentrating on keeping the car going, I missed my hotel in the centre of Birmingham and drove past the local Jaguar dealership, only for the clutch to fail once and for all at a very busy roundabout, causing severe traffic congestion in the centre of Birmingham on the day that Manchester United were playing Birmingham City.
The car was eventually recovered to the Jaguar garage that I had driven past. I contacted Jaguar Assist to get a loan car, but was told that because the vehicle was not recovered by Jaguar, they would not supply a loan car.
4 days later I am still waiting for the car to be repaired and am paying for a hire car. So much for Jaguar's 3 year warranty and service. I will go for a Lexus next time.
General comments?
My previous car was a Jaguar X type Saloon A.W.D 2.5 petrol; very quick and good handling. One problem was wear to the driver's leather seat after 7 months; Jaguar replaced the whole leather covering. Changed the car after two years because of increasing fuel cost; I was only getting a max of 38 mpg, so changed to a 2.2 turbo diesel.
The test car I drove was as quick as the 2.5 petrol, however my current car never feels as quick; in fact a loan car supplied when mine was serviced, again a 2.2 diesel, was much quicker. When I mentioned this to the garage, they said that they thought my car quicker than the loan car!!!
