1997 Jaguar XJR from UK and Ireland - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The cooling fan became noisy so was changed.

General comments?

This car is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Far more attractive and far less obvious than BMW's M5,it is the ideal car for the british man who likes to put his foot down.

Classic looks, an interior like the queens study and an unburstable engine.

I am considering getting one of these since I can pick one up now for under £2000. I was looking for an old run-about for work to replace my E34 5 series, which is nearly 20 years old - I paid 2k for that a few years ago and have had my money's worth out of it (I consider 1k per year reasonable write off for old clunkers). Therefore this is far more attractive proposition than a slightly newer Mondeo or whatever.

However I have to say you cannot compare this car to an M5 - I know because I own one. The Jag does 0-60 in, what, 7 seconds? That's the same as a BMW 328i - the M5 is between 4.8 and 5.2 seconds depending on who you believe so I'm not sure they are in the same league as you will be able to deduce from the prices.
