The xjs, originally met with dissatisfaction went it entered the automotive market. Certainly their early quality control issues - especially electrical problems and of course, the omnipresent blown head gaskets of the v12 contributed negatively to this image as well. Jaguar was no longer producing a sports car in the old sense of the term, but rather had moved into the true 'grand tourismo' sector. Over time people have come to truly appreciate these cars for what they are. The v12 problems were solved and the electrical quality control issues cleared up. Once into the nineties for example Jaguars suffered more from old PR and less from actual problems. The automobile, either in the 6 or 12 cyl. configuration is a magnificent, sexy, fast and comfortable highway cruiser able to cover large distances in record time with agility and comfort.
I so agree. I have a red XJS12 convertible that absolutely stops traffic; really, honest to God. And that's in Palm Springs, CA, where ya gotta love what ya drive. A plethora of BMW's, et al... and then there's me. "PSKITTY" is the plate. Do ya love that or what?
It has all this chrome on the sides and the back that most Jags don't have, it has a spoiler front and back... at least I think that's what they're called, and I'm tellin' ya, you could be so ugly you could stop a clock and it wouldn't matter. People of all ages and both sexes come up to me positively drooling. They make comments, "all my life I wanted one of those.." and they walk away muttering. True story.
If I weren't also drooling at owning such a magnificent creature, I'd be embarrassed. It's just been going on for so long now, I should be over it. But I'm not. What a car.
Sorry, it's just that kinda car. Oh, and fast? Yep.
