1997 Jeep Cherokee sport review from North America
"Not a bad jeep"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Belt problems where they snap off and there still pieces you have to get out of the engine.
If you don't get it out the water pump and power steering pump will go bad, which is what happen to me.
If you have that problem heres how to fix this...
Here is the first 4 step. I strongly suggest not to do this unless absoultley necesary.
First replace the belt tensioner pulley that broke.
Second replace the belt idler pulley that also broke.
Third replace the alternator because that will get damaged from the bad belts.
Fourth replace the water pump.
Fifth replace power steering pump.
NOW THE REAL GAME...
Buy a new belt and get a tensioner pulley and I advise to get one off a 4.6 Ford engine. Its the same size as the Jeeps, but its plastic which doesn't squeal like it used to and the sides of it holds the belt better. Finally get the snow shield from Chrysler then put it in and you can enjoy your Jeep again. The shield goes further up on the pulley sides which will make the belts last even more. That's that.
I bought that pulley $10 from a junk yard, $25 for the belt, and $15 for the shield. The total was $50. Every should be fine with this. Any questions, concerns, or comments just write it and I will respond.
And by the way the a. c unit is behind the the power steering pump, and it puts out the water when the air conditioning is in use. In order to stop this get a hose in there then strap it down to the lowest point as possible. This stops the water from getting on the belt.
General comments?
Truck was not bad. I gave it to my brother cause he got his license and this is his first truck. Now I have a Grand Prix Supercharge.
