Jeeps have wierd problems. Parts are usually cheap, but vary & are from different companies as Jeep in '88 was transitioning from AMC to Chrysler. Like, ss is a Renault or Mitsubishi starter?
It's been a good outfit in a lot of ways, but the problems have dogged me out.
I definitely agree, I own a 88 jeepCherokee limited 4.0 6 cyl. and Have grown very tired of the repairs...
My '90 Cherokee Laredo has 309,000 miles on its original engine and transmission. A poorly engineered cooling system (plastic coolant bottle and pressure cap) is the only aggravation this vehicle has ever caused me.
I have a 88 jeep and it is not shifting properly
I have to red line it to get it to shift can anyone help!
I am having a problem with my 1988 Cherokee Laredo. I can not get any spark out of the coil and I have replaced every ignition component. Can anyone help me?
Oil in the air filter is caused by a broken ring on the piston, this could also cause coolant to leak into compression chamber, which will give you white smoke out the tail pipe.
If the velicle is not shifting right, you have to ask your self the last time the transmission fluid was changed. If you red line to much, your transmission will go out. There is something sticking inside the transmission case, get it look at by a mechanic right away. 300.00 dollars now or 3000.00 dollars later.
Yes in dealing with no spark, check crank spark sender. (not sure of the exact name). but this is always the case if no spark on old cherokees. it is located in back of engine attached to coincide with flywheel. change this part and all your spark problems will be cured. at least to the distributor.
