There's a strange "clunk" noise coming from the rear of the Jeep. Started about 200 miles after I took owbership.
There's a lot of play in the steering wheel.
There's plenty of power from the 4.0.
Loud clunking noises from both rear and front passenger side. I haven't been able to track the noises down. A local mechanic says bushing in leaf springs/rear track bar may be worn.
The factory speakers are absolutely horrible.
Transmission shifts hard at times going into "reverse" and occasionally "drive".
Steering wheel is off center to the left and there's a lot of play...not sure what the fix is for these problems. Alignment however is good.
1st to fix your steering wheel resting to the left, your steering wheel splines have rotated and it needs to be taken apart and relined up to be straight or you could just keep living with it like I do.
2nd you can tighten your play up some so there is only minor movment. Its simple, you need an allen wrench and an adjustable wrench. follow the steering shaft out of the engine and where you see it make and L there will be a ball joint you can tighten. don't over tighten it or you won't be able to steer it well. Some play will remain because the joint is old and worn, but it'll be a lot better. It may seem stiff at first, but it will loosen itself up enough in about a week to a comfortable stiff feel.
