1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo review from Peru

Past the 180,000 miles mark I did a mayor engine overhaul even thou it was not burning oil, but it felt it had lost a little punch, bought the spare parts (pistons, rings, bearings, water and oil pump, valves, guides, timing gears, gaskets etc) for about US$700 did the work myself besides the re-boring to +0.020 and crank regrinding wich added US$150 and since then the car works perfectly. Only other repairs were a new set of shocks, brake pads and shoes and two sets of water hoses they tend to crack and leak.

I have just given the Cherokee a 2,000 miles ride for the holidays around the south of Peruvian Andes which took me 4 times over 14,000 Ft (that's right no zero added) and the car just climbs like it is at sea level just a little on the hi side of the water temp at the maximum altitudes, but never less it just pressed forward.

I also own a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero and I just picked the Cherokee to go for the ride as it allows you to drive 10 hours straight without leaving your body as if had been your first day at the gym (and I'm 55).

My wife comes with me on those trips and never complains about the comfort either.
