"This car is horrible when it reaches high mileage, but so does every car so go buy a new jeep"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have experince with this car break failure

My accleration sticks

I have also experince low accleration when changing lanes on the highway at speeds of 60mph

My gasket blew at 80,000 miles

Breaks and tire warp easily due too bad body type and poor maitnence on the part of the manufacture

Headlights create low visibilty at night and need to be replaced

Car is poor on gas and consumes more in a year than its worth.

General comments?

Don't buy a cherokee get eithier a new wrangler or grand cherokee jeep is a good american car except this car has its problems and I am happy to start seeing them off the road.

Hello, I drive a 1996 Cherokee. The sticking throttle, or acceleration problem, is a common one. It is usually called by a sensor known as the "TPS," or Throttle Position Sensor. If that sensor gets wet or dirty, sometimes it will fail, and the acceleration of the Jeep will be affected. If you replace the sensor, usually less than $50.00 USD, the problem should go away. The sensor is located on the throttle body. You can find it by opening the hood, noting the position of the air intake box and hose, and by following the hose back to where it is seated on the throttle body. The TPS is the sensor on the throttle body nearest the firewall.

The headlights are also a common complaint. They are weak for anything, but city driving. I drive in the city, so I don't need super bright lights. There are several types of headlights that produce brighter light, including Sylvania SilverStar lights (the sealed kind). The SilverStar sealed units are direct replacements for the stock lights. However, the best way to increase the amount of light is by replacing the headlight wiring. The wiring is the weak spot in Cherokee lighting. Another option is to buy an accessory pair of fog lights or driving lights, which is a little easier than rewiring the headlights.

Although my Cherokee also gets poor gas mileage (15mpg city/18.5mpg highway), expensive gas is still cheaper than buying a new, more fuel-efficient car, at least in the United States. I bought my Cherokee used, and most of the more fuel-efficient vehicles on the market would have cost much more, or would have been less reliable (e.g. a 4 cylinder Chevrolet Cavalier). In other countries, the cost of fuel is more prohibitive, in which case, I have to agree, the Cherokee is not an especially economical vehicle.

I've got '01 Cherokee Sport with 200,000 KM's on it and it still goes quite well and handles excellent.

I can't say enough good things about it! Love it.

Yes, the differentials are sweating oil, the brakes need to be changed every 10 months, but what car doesn't need maintenance at this millage.

I'd strongly recommend to get the best spark plugs you can for this truck it helps a lot.

I give it 8 out 10.
