1991 Jeep Cherokee Basic Model. 5 Speed review from Germany
"Cheap. Fast. Tough. What else do you want?"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Harmonic balancer is bad. Pulleys squeak. Needs new serpentine belt, balancer and pulley bearings/lube she will be purring like a kitten.
General comments?
Great power. Poor fuel mileage. No surprise. I have driven German or Japanese cars almost exclusively for 20 years. I bought this rig cuz Land Rover Defenders are too damn expensive and I wanted a rugged vehicle.
Still like the image of the Defender, but this tired old Jeep will smoke any Rover down the autobahn and will hang with them off road. And doesn't drive me insane with niggly problems.
Loads of character. Inexpensive to modify. Reliable as a sledgehammer. Sleeper at stoplight drags...
