Hi.
As an owner of an 88 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer, I have experienced most of the problems listed above. Yet, somehow I still love it as most of you do. It has given me lots of headaches, yet it runs when it counts. I am about to sound nuts and silly, but I have come to think that my Cherokee is, well, haunted. Yep. That is the only way I have of explaining its antics, such as the start/stop problem no one can figure out or in my case, disappearing oil leaks etc.
Go figure, Carlos.
Okay, here goes. I am getting ready to pull my hair out by the roots, can someone PLEASE HELP ME! My fiancee is getting ready to blow up the thing, but I know he loves it too much. LOL 1989 Cherokee Pioneer Peugeot Tranny. How to replace the clutch slave cylinder. Ha Ha Ha. I have been on the internet all day, and there seems to be no help for me, parts I can find, but the last thing I want to do is buy the part and hand it to him and say "fix it" without having some idea about what is involved. Any tips, tricks or step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated!
To the people who have trouble starting your Jeep: someone wrote in and said to change the crank spark sensor and HE WAS RIGHT! Four weeks and considerable cash later, I saw his entry and tried it. Cheap part, easy to put in. If your Jeep cranks over, but won't always start (or stalls in traffic), TRY IT!!
Yes, Crank Shaft Position sensor. It counts the teeth on the flywheel and sends information to the ECU for advancing and retarding ignition, and controls fuel injector pulses. If this sensor is going bad, it will cause a hard start, long cranking start, no start situations, low idle, and possible dying out.
It's located on the driver's side of the bell housing, almost against the firewall tunnel for the transmission. The down pipe does make it difficult to access, as well as a few other suspension components. It's easy to locate, however it is tedious and hard to reach with fat arms and fingers.
