1986 Jeep CJ7 Renegade review from North America
"It's a fun car, but not for 2008 highway transportation"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Shortly after I bought it (I am third owner) this CJ7 would immediately die at a stop light, etc., and so was unreliable. Rather than continue to fight the carb, I replaced it with a Howell Engr TBFI kit, then fought serious detonation issue for quite a while. Finally, in desperation, I trailered the vehicle to Collins Bros in Wiley, TX, and they 100% eliminated the detonation issue, although they stated they didn't know what one thing fixed it. Runs GREAT now, and is fun to travel in.
Replaced original plastic valve cover with aluminum one to stop an oil leak. Okay now.
General comments?
No other issues. Love it.
