1985 Jeep CJ7 Renegade review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Things that have gone wrong... not a great deal. Most of the problems have been due to a lot of hard off roading, ie water inside, leaks through the windscreen.
A few minor electrical issues and the alternator; I have replaced this twice.
Minor body rust, but hey it's 24 years old.
General comments?
After removing the torquey 4.2 straight six, I dropped in a 5.7 V8 AMX, straight swap.
Very tough car, never fails to impress on the black stuff or on the dirt and rocks.
If you're looking for comfort, go buy something else.
These vehicles are designed with a purpose; that is to be tough and workable.
Unlike the British Land Rover, I can honestly say it's reliable and hard to destroy/damage.
More leg room than my old Landy.
No real difference between the 2.25 Landy and the V8 for fuel economy; if that's what you want, then buy a diesel.
I've used the CJ to tow fire engines, pull trees, horse boxes, boats, and best of all have a lot of fun in.
