1991 Jeep Comanche Sport Truck review from North America
"An excellent reliable truck"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Clutch slave defective after the first year - replaced under warranty.
Both rear leaf springs replaced.
Throttle position sensor replaced.
Transfer case overhaul due to Chrysler service neglect.
No other problems outside of general maintenance.
General comments?
The performance of this truck, both in engine (190hp) and handling are excellent. Low end torque is great - takes nothing to smoke the tires, high end torque is harder to come by though - passing on the highway isn't the greatest.
After nine years and 250K, the engine is still running as good as new (oil change every 5K), the clutch, radiator, alternator, etc. are still original.
The ride can be harsh on rough surfaces. Off road capability is excellent - have driven through many trails and through shallow rivers in outback Newfoundland.
Very simply designed - easy to work on yourself.
Really tough on gas though, this is not an economy truck (removing the tailgate for highway driving makes a big difference).
Overall, it's been an excellent first vehicle that I predict will last at least a few years yet.
