2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited from North America - Comments

"Excellent 4x4, high maintenance though"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The stock brake pads and rotors failed constantly.

Power windows (driver and passenger) broke.

Air conditioning condenser assembly failed.

Power steering hose "intake" leaked.

The harmonic balancer cracked.

The serpentine belt pully assembly was worn out.

General comments?

Replaced the pads and rotors with crossdrilled rotors and ceramic brake pads from "power stop". I have put 32.000 miles on the Jeep since and have had no problems with the brakes.

Ordered the brake parts from "Summit Racing". They slapped right on.. Replaced all other parts at home after ordering the upgraded or recalled parts from the dealership.

The 4.7 liter V8 is a Mercedes based engine, so the parts will be pricey.

The power windows system has a major design flaw and I do not recommend a remanufactered part. The problem with the windows is that it is a one piece complete cable drive system. The power window's cable's are connected to a plastic bracket that after some use, will just snap.

I went with a Flowmaster 40 series muffler and I just replaced it right where the stock one was. The new muffler improved take off and highway power. I also replaced the stock airfilter with a K$N direct factory replacement, and it has been worth it, since all I have to do is clean it out once every 6000 miles.

I thought the 4.7 is the chrysler engine that has always been used in the Durangos, RAM 1500's, Dakota etc. Maybe the new 3.5 is mercedes based, but I could not find anything on the 4.7L that's mercedes based.
