2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD review from North America
"Decent - comfortable for trips, overall OK"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Like other I am astonished to find that similar problems exist! I have had several problems; drivers power window motor repaired, door lock gears replaced on two doors; another one is now loudly putting out a grinding noise, hood also does not stay open. Of course the brakes and rotors : I was told that the"Jeep runs hot and will warp the rotors if they are not the 'better' kind".
NOW the passenger door will not open from the outside, the vehicle acts like either the transmission is going, or it is not getting enough fuel, especially when the vehicle is hotter or up hills. ANY IDEAS???
The drivers seat is a nightmare. Originally the "seat" broke. When I took it to the local dealer (Of course it is the only place that can replace it) I was told that the seat AND the bracket had to be replaced. The cost of all that was $850. I was told that they had "NEVER seen anything like it before! This is a surprise!"
13 months later, the bracket broke again! I was unable to afford the repair, so the seat and the other side of the bracket broke also! Now I am held up by a 2x4 propped against the back of the seat and the back seat, blocks under the frame, and 2x4 between the console and the seat to hold it all up.
I just pray I am not in an accident, as the 2x4 will hit the back of my head...
(any chance Jeep will pay the funeral expense?)
I have been told that a seat and frame at the local wrecking yard is 125.00 and a upholstery shop will install for 250.
General comments?
I will say that this vehicle has been used for long road trips, and hunting off road so overall I am not upset with the Jeep. I am just disgusted with all the "little" things that add up and the fact that you cannot get repairs except at the dealer!
Especially in Montana!
I wish I had found this site sooner. I will use it to check on any other vehicles I plan to purchase in the future.
