2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited review from North America
"Not worth buying at any price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
After six months, my "original" Grand Cherokee was replaced by Daimler-Chrysler Canada due to "incorrect paint process" with a new one.
The "replacement" vehicle has been a nightmare. Where do I start?
At 5200 km a wheel alignment was required due to severe tire feather edging.
At 12000 km the front axle bushings were replaced.
At 13700 km the front brake rotors were replaced due to pulsation.
At 18800 km the electrical recall 882 was performed.
At 23500 km all 4 light alloy wheels were replaced due to corrosion.
At 27800 km the front brake rotors were replaced for the 2nd time; the sway bar bushings were replaced; the transmission valve body was repaired due to harsh shifting; the leather on the steering wheel was coming off and required a new wheel; a water leak at the driver' side floor was repaired.
At 30200 km the engine started to "ping" under load and no solution was given by the dealer.
At 37200 km the front differential bearings and the front drive shaft were replaced; the valve body was overhauled for the second time; the engine pinging is still without solution.
At 41900 km the transfer case output seal was replaced.
At 46400 km the front rotors were replaced for the 3rd time (I was charged for the labor) ; the transfer case was resealed; the front differential pinion bearings were replaced; the engine is still pinging (I was told by the dealer to use premium fuel).
At 50000 km heavy engine pinging was considered "normal" by Chrysler engineering department.
At 51300 km the driver's recliner motor was replaced.
At 54200 km the intake manifold shield recall B06 was installed.
Now that my odometer shows 54500 km I have to bring the vehicle to the dealer to have the brake pulsation repaired for the 4th time; the alloy wheels are all corroded; the transfer case is noisy; the front end vibrates and is noisy; a water leak on the passenger side has developed.
An appointment with the Chrysler rep has been requested.
General comments?
The Chrysler reps at head office in Windsor, Ontario are very annoying. They lack vehicle knowledge and people skills.
Serious quality issues with this vehicle such as the brakes, transfer case, transmission and front end.
