"A $30,000 piece of CRAP!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

A transmission sensor chip needed to be replaced at 40,000 miles.

The entire engine needed to be replaced at 45,000 miles.

Miscellaneous other electronic items have gone on the vehicle in the 2 years I have owned it.

General comments?

This vehicle is an insult to the automotive industry. I have had nothing, but problems with the car since I bought it. My most recent problems with my jeep were transmission related, which cost me $350 and I was just informed that the entire engine is gone at 45,000 miles. I have taken the vehicle in for all of its scheduled maintenance, oil changes every 3 thousand miles and I am a parent of a 3 year old, so I am not driving the vehicle "hard" I am absolutely disgusted with the car and the fact that Chrysler explained to me that this kind of thing happens and that's why I should have purchased the extended warranty. The Jeep truly lives up to its notorious reputation and I only wish I had listened to the people who told me not to buy a Jeep when I was deciding what I was going to buy. (all previous Jeep owners by the way) I've seen higher quality products in a junk yard and Chrysler does not stand by their product at all. It's an outrage for an engine to blow at 45,000 miles and even more of an outrage for the manufacturer to say that those things happen. Well they don't happen with any other manufacturers. To all thinking about buying a Jeep, do yourself an enormous favor and buy something else. They may look nice and even drive nice, but you're in for nothing, but headaches. I will never be seen driving another Jeep, even if one was given to me.

I was thinking of buying a Jeep; however, I will pass. Your comments, in addition to the many others I've read, have persuaded me to consider other makes of cars. Sorry about your troubles and thank you for your comments.

You're lucky! We paid $35,000 for our piece of CRAP.

Same deal here, transmission out at 11k miles. Warped rotors from the manufacturer. Computer that runs the lights replaced 2x. Heated Seats caught seats on fire. Replace the heated seat mechanism 2x. That is just to start it off. Chrysler should be put under.

I guess I'm lucky with only the brake problem.I've owned many Jeeps and will only buy Jeeps. I do pull a boat and go 4 wheeling. Also it's not a SUV it's an American 4X4.

Same problems here. Bought mine Jeep Certified in 2002.

Thankfully, my husband insisted on the warranty for an extra $1000. So far, we have had to replace the transmission, front and rear brakes and rotors. The 2nd set, even though it was the rear rotors this time, wasn't covered by the warranty-$400. The driver side window dropped into the door, another $50 for the deductible. We also have the undetectable rear end noise no one seems to be able to figure out.

This is my 2nd Jeep. I loved my '96. Never a single problem, my daughter totaled it. I feel sure it saved her life. She barely had a scratch. Unfortunately, the 2001 only has 34k and I'm afraid to drive it out of town. I can't wait to unload this burden!

Boy am I shocked. bought a 2002 with only 18K on it and thought that I was getting a screaming deal. I am screaming. I had a 1995 that had over 100K on it and I loved it - what happen to DM?

I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and it's had many problems. I too have had to replace all 4 rotors at least twice. Now it has 40K miles and my warranty expired (and my lease doesn't expire until Sept 2005) and I am having some transmission problems. Could someone explain the symptoms they were experiencing prior to replacing the "transmission sensor chip"?

I'm really shocked hearing about all your problems with the 2001 JGC. I have one, I-6, Quadra-Trac II, bought it used with 18,000 in 02. Now it has 60,000 on it, and have had no mechanical problems with it whatsoever. The brake rotors went out at 45,000 but that's the ONLY problem so far. I am a sold Jeep fan and will buy no other SUV besides a Jeep. I love mine.

Jeep has one of the very highest customer loyalty ratings. There is a reason! I am on my 3rd Jeep Grand and it has been great as all the others were. The problem with these online sites is you only hear the bad, not the good, that is why I am writting. Jeep has the largest following next to Harley and for good reason. It is the most overbuilt SUV on the road today. There are always going to be extremes, but the numbers don't lie. This car is a premier vehicle.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee 2001 Limited has a lot of problems all of the time. First, I replaced all the brake rotors 3 times, the water pump, the radiator fan relay, the complete trasmission, the governor transmission pressure sensor 5 times (along with new trans oil and filter), the radiator fan motor, the fuel tank sender unit, and both front shock absorbers. I only have 48,678 miles at this moment. This is the real Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Same problems: driver's window falling down; rotors needing constant replacement; transmission issues, etc...

My husband purchased a 2001 Jeep Grand cherokee Limited for me about two years ago. I just love my car, but I have to be honest, I have had some problems, not a lot, but enough. After he bought it, the check engine light kept coming on. I took it into the automotive shop and they could not figure out what it was. I drive long distance every now and then to visit my parents in San Jose, and everytime it came on it had me nervous because I live in South Lake Tahoe. I take very good care of my jeep and have things checked regularly, so I don't understand why the check engine light still comes on. Now I am exsperienceing a heater malfunction. My heater blows cold air, but gives off no heat. Again I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains so I need to have heat. Why are these things happening if I have been taking such good care of my car and give it regular check ups. Maybe someone can tell me what this problem could be. Well, aside from these problems, I still love my jeep. I have a 1995 and I loved it. Sincerely, Frances Butler, South Lake Tahoe.
