2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited review from North America

"I anticipate this car will prove to be a financial nightmare."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Brake rotors warped at 14000 miles.

Brake rotors warped at 28000 miles.

General comments?

The car is very comfortable.

However the recurring brake problem and lack of concern by the dealer leaves little pleasure in owning this vehicle.

At 14000 miles the vehicle developed a severe shaking in the front end when the brake pedal was depressed at speeds over 35 MPH.

Upon taking the vehicle to the dealer I was advised that the brake rotors had warped. I thought this was unusual at such low mileage, but since the car was still under warranty the dealer replaced the brake rotors.

At 28000 miles I started experiencing the same shaking in the front end and returned to the dealer.

I was told that the brake rotors had probably warped again, but since the vehicle was now outside warranty guidelines I would have to bear the cost myself, a minimum of $475.00.

When I advised the dealer I didn't think I should have to pay because they obviously didn't fix the problem the first time I wad told "take it up with the Chrysler corp."

I asked if this was a common problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the response from the dealer was "we have seen it".

I opted not to have the vehicle repaired by the dealer and took it to a service shop I know to be honest.

Upon examining the vehicle he advised me that all four brake rotors had warped and the cost to fix it was $817.

I called the dealer anonymously, described the extent of the problems and asked for an estimate to repair and was quoted approx. $1100.
