Air conditioning now has a leak... mechanic added some red dye to track down, but he says that 99% sure it's the evaporator - because this is VERY COMMON.. estimate $800.00 to repair because he has to remove most of dash.
Front brake rotors failed at 42,000 miles - instead of resurfacing I replaced calipers and rotors with upgraded parts. I do my own oil changes and tire rotation, so I properly torque all lugs... hopefully the upgraded factory rotors and calipers will do the trick. $350.00 in parts, was very easy to do myself.
Window regulator on drivers door failed @ 20,000 miles and was replaced under warranty with upgraded unit. I hope the parts really are upgraded.
Transmission shifter did not lock into its position precisely... dealer repaired under warranty - now aok.
Very rough idle... tune up did not help very much.
Front dash tweeter speaker blew... easy to replace... $50.00.
This 2001 V8 2WD is very fast and has very firm suspension. Both good features for me because it feels sporty.
Don't let your tires get worn or you'll spin em easy in any wet conditions.
Fuel economy is 15 city, 19 hwy.
I had the same problem of the gas light coming on after fill-ups. (Within 2 years of purchase.) Turns out it was a faulty gas cap--apparently it leaked air and prevented proper pressurization.
My engine light constantly went on eventhough I was told that once I replaced the gas cap problem would be solved, it wasn't. Had a gas leak to the engine, paid to get that fixed now I have an enourmas water leak in the passenger side. They fixed it, had to take out the air conditioner to resseal. Now it leaks more than ever, and so they want $400 more to take out the entire engine to reseal everything. Is that reasonable?
I also had gas cap problem (solved by a mechanic after spending money at dealer to fix issue which they said was something else). failed around 35,000 and continued until I got a new cap.
Also had window regulator go down on passenger side front. $400 but I argued and got reimbursed. failed around 35,000.
Heater doesn't work. failed around 45,000. won't fix. they are asking for $850 because dash in this model is hard to remove.
Also had front dash speaker blow at 70,000.
Lastly - also had to replace/grind rotors around 40,000.
Lots of problems for the first 5 years.
