1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer from North America - Comments

"Overall it is the best Jeep ever made"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Well when I got it the cabin lights didn't work but I found out the connections were rusted - easy fix.

The back window motor doesn't work and the down on the front door lock button doesn't work - another easiy fix.

Windows are little slow going up but nothing grease can't fix.

Engine seems to run hot but it doesn't over heat.

Things do rattle a little.

General comments?

I think that this truck is cool, it offers a very funky look that is love it or hate it, but they are tigers in disguise.

They are very powerful and they do eat gas but not as bad as some other trucks (Fords).

They are very good offroad, they do have a tough ride but are very responsive. Very easiy to drive on the road too. Big, safe, and high off the ground.

I love the 1988 Grand Wagoneer I just bought. I have not had it long enough to see if it's as bad on gas as everyone says it will be, but I am sure it can't be as bad as what I was driving before.

My Jeep is in perfect shape, all the power options are in good working order, and I'm sure I'll never be as proud of any other vehicle as I am of it. Can't say what I think about the four-wheel drive because I do not want to take my beautiful truck off-road.

Don't want to take it off road? That's too bad, I have a 70 with the Buick 350, it gets around 16 MPG. It is an excellent off roader for something so big. I haul my dog's (Rot Lab mixes, about 345lbs worth) and my Kayak and mountain bike all over the California mountains. I think it has about 180,000 miles on it and is still going strong.

This Wagoneer is rumored to have belonged to Marlin Percins of Mutual of Omaha fame and has been all over South America. I believe it has starred in several videos about off roading in South America.

The paint and interior need some help, but I am going to cosmetically restore both and then make it a better offroader. I need to change the clutch and I'm putting a 4" lift kit plus front and rear lockers in the diff's. It will ride on 15" by 10" steel wells with stock hubcaps and run a 33x9.5 tire so I won't have to modify the fender wells to clear the tire.

I also feel that this is a great all around and usefull truck/station wagon. It is going to be in my family for some time to come.

Best of luck and go ahead and get it a little dirty, that's what it's made for... Ron.
