1970 Jeep Wagoneer review from North America
"This is one of the best adventure tools I have ever had the pleasure of owning"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Well the car is 31 years old, considering this it has no problems. But since I have owned it, I have made some repairs the previous owners neglected to do. Someone put the front brake shoes on backwards, the gas pedal broke out of the floor, and the roll up rear window channel was broken allowing the window to come up crooked.
The clutch needed replacement, there were several oil leaks, due to the age of the gasket material I'm sure.
General comments?
For the money I paid, less than $3000.00 dollars, this car has been fantastic.
The ride and handling are fantastic for such a large vehicle.
The off road ability is incredible and can only get better with some small improvements (4" lift kit and front and rear lockers for the axles).
The paint and interior are shot, but I am planning a cosmetic restoration of these over the next year or so.
The Buick engine and Dana 20 transfer case with manual hubs let me get much better mileage than you guys with the later model full time 4 wheel drive (I can get out and lock my hubs in freezing snow forever when gas is $1.90 per gallon). Sorry didn't mean to rub it in, I just couldn't help it.
When I have my dogs, kayak and mountain bike loaded up and am heading to the beach or the mountains, people just wave and everyone you meet had one just like at one time in their lives. It has been a great way to meet very interesting and adventurous people.
