2002 Jeep Wrangler Base review from North America
"A fun gas sucking around-town toy"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
2nd gear synchro is already going.
Engine service light came on at about
7500 miles. This was caused by a loose
fitting gas cap.
General comments?
Good: Summer days with the top down.
Built like a tank, but handles
surprisingly well. A zillion aftermarket
parts and toys for it. Can handle our
steep snowy driveway like a goat.
Cult car. Not another soulless
jellybean car or station-wagon on
4x4 (SUV). Has a lot of character.
Bad: Gets 17 MPG on a good day with a
tail wind, which is pretty poor for a
2+2 seater 4 cylinder. No trunk unless
you buy an aftermarket one. One of the
most stolen cars in the US. Cult car.
Eh: Took it from WI to WA and back.
Never again. This is not a long-distance
hauler, but is a blast around town.
Can be a handful with the top up on
windy days. 4-cyl engine is pretty
gutless on the highway, but has lots
of torque and pep otherwise.
