The electrics in the engine bay area have suffered from the intense engine heat and are therefore problematic.
The CarterThemoquad carburetor can be very tricky and is prone to primary chamber flooding. This car will overheat if the radiator is not maintained well!
This car is very fast and very loud.
The interior is superbly finished in leather everything and all the mod cons, some of which you don't even get on modern cars. It also seats 4 adults, all be it with very little leg room in the rear. The view out of the massive rear view mirror is stunning - no pillars to restrict your view.
I have a 1974 J Series Interceptor and I love it. Smooth, torquey 440 cu in engine, lovely V8 noise (especially with big bore exhaust system). Watch out for hot running (which can be cured with Bosch fans, recored rad, 8 blade water pump, 160 thermo) and fire hazards (old wiring in engine bay and location of twin brake fluid reservoirs, which hang over the exhaust manifold). So many mods can be done to make this good car excellent, e.g. aluminium inlet manifold, Gear Vendors overdrive, 215/70 tyres, fast wind starter motor, constant output alternator, etc). For real power and torque consider stroker kit for 440 engine, but not sure if suspension and brakes can take it!
I have a 1973 Interceptor in original (exept for the Edelbrock carb. ) The car is in good shape with only 55 000 miles on it. It want to make some upgrades of cooling fans, inlet manifold, lightweight starter
and, water pump. Anyone out there who can help me with suppliers of these parts?? Part # etc.
Bosch fans from which cars can be used??
The issue with the Carter ThermoQuad is pretty well-documented in America, at least from Technical Service Bulletins from the early '80s. Someone might have a fix from this side of the pond.
