2001 Kia Rio RS ( Base ) review from North America
"An excellent car for the price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The skirt has been broken twice.
This was caused by my aggressive driving on construction riddled roads.
The rear mud flaps have also been broken off.
The car often makes a pretty loud thump when accelerating out of a turn just as the gear's are changing.
The car likes to stay in a high rev state before changing to third gear.
General comments?
The splash guard and mud flaps have been replaced twice for free from the dealership.
The dealership has readjusted the transmission to get rid of the high rev's when switching to third gear.
My family went up to Thunder Bay last summer, we were going to pick up my 2 cousins. On the highway we had the car up to 195km/h then backed off to a steady 170. Once the car hit 130km/h the car sunk lower to the ground and those 13" tires really gripped well.
The car gets a steady 413km per tank of gas highway and 327km in city.
I love this little car and would buy another KIA. Could use a bigger engine though, the 4 cyl. is very whiny.
