1998 Lada Niva review from North America

What things have gone wrong with the car?
The problem is I've just heard of the thing. A turbo diesel Lada Niva!!! I have been thinking of putting a diesel motor on a Niva for a realy long time. Now I live in Canada and would like to know about the availability of on of these things, Any info would help. Email me if you have any suggestions Pat_o_mack@hotmail.com.
General comments?
Apparently this thing is only 89 hp with 90 something ft lbs? even the true stats would be nice to find, so far all I've found on line was German, Russian, or french sites... needless to say I don't speak anything, but english. Although the pictures just make the truck even more entising.
