What things have gone wrong with the car?

Everything!

Carburettor was replaced.

New Cat was fitted.

New ignition.

New exhaust.

New rear wiper motor.

Rear and front brakes.

Check light flashed continously.

Poor Starting when hot.

Poor starting when cold.

General comments?

What a horrible, unreliable car. fuel consumption was diabolicle! Would love to cut out all the time. Finally fitted a Webar Carb with manual ckoke, which helped matters slightly.

Poor ride, poor performance, and especially a car of 1997 P reg. Would at least expect something!!!

Fuel light would flash at half full, build qaulity inside was terrible. I suppose the only plus side, is that it was cheap to maintain, All the time!!!.

Please Don't drive one!! If you are a mechanic then try one!!!

Have to disagree with you. May Lada is 16 years old. Runs Great and Drives Great. My other cars have been a GMC van, VW Rabbit, a VW golf, V70 Volvo (Still drive it too, But the Lada more),Honda Civic, Pontiac Ventura (know as a Chevy Nova)

And the Lada has been the best of them all, over all. Volvo very close second, but costly when it needs repairs, other wise it would be the only better one of the bunch.

I would be suspicious of any review, that made sweeping generalisations such as: "what went wrong with the car"? "Everything". Sounds like a deliberately biased rant. I`ve owned a Lada Samara for 15 years, and have not experienced the sort of problems this "reviewer" claims to have had. Yes, I`ve had carburettor problems (after 120,000kms.) - but the installation of a new carbie kit (new diaphragms, gaskets etc.) fixed that easily. Yes, my exhaust developed a hole (due to rust) after some 10 years. I replaced it with a stainless steel one. Brakes? Well you do change the pads and linings every so often, don`t you- depending on how heavy you are on the brakes. It`s called maintenance. "Poor starting when hot AND when cold"? Give me a break! Maybe, the "reviewer" didn`t know which way to turn the ignition key, or how long to hold it for, or perhaps he had no idea how to use a manual choke correctly. If you flood the carbie on any car, it certainly won`t start in a hurry. My car starts first time, every time- strange?!! As far as the reviewer`s comment: "fuel consumption was "diabolicle" goes, I think HIS statement is diabolical. The Lada Samara is well known for it`s excellent fuel economy- some owners regularly recording 45 m.p.g. when cruising at 80-90 km/hr.in 5th gear. Read some other reviews, in order to get a more balanced overall assessment of this car- not the one-sided, destructive criticism presented by this "reviewer". Surely the aim of this survey site, is to present constructive and objective reviews of motor vehicles- for everybody`s benefit. What we DON`T need are highly biased reviews- one way or the other! They really tell us nothing- except how prejudiced the reviewer is.
