1966 Land Rover 88 series 2a ffr review from Australia and New Zealand

What things have gone wrong with the car?
Bolts that hold the exhaust downpipe to the exhaust manifold broke causing the exhaust to leak, easily fixed using an easy out and new bolts.
Brake slave cylinders failed on two wheels due to perishing easily and cheaply replaced ($38 should be goodd for another 40 years)
Clutch master and slave cylinders failed once again due to perished seals easily replaced.
Leaf spring shackle pin bushing failed, mildly difficult to replace due to corrosion problems.
General comments?
This vehicle is definitely an enthusiasts machine it is definitely not a car for the non mechanically minded or daily commuter. however it is extremely competent off road and in difficult conditions and very easy to work on making it an excellent car for people who have an interest in learning about mechanics etc.
It is noisy, slow, gas gussying and comparatively unreliable, but what can you expect from a 40 year old vehicle. I have owned mine for over 2 years and it has never broken down on me so if maintained reliability is not an issue.
Overall a great car for hunting, fishing, off roading and taking lots of drunk people home from the pub:)
