Anyone who buys a 10 year old vehicle with 130,000km on the speedo is looking for trouble.
There's a difference between "trouble" and a crisis!!! I've owned many vehicles that were ten years old and older with much higher mileage and not having as many issues as I've had just owning this vehicle for the last month. My last vehicle was a 1988 Toyota 4Runner with the 22RE engine it had 272,000 kms on it when I took it to Alaska and 286,000 when I sold it... not a single hick up... yet my Rover manages to break me just driving to the corner store. If image is what is important to you - buy one - if you'd rather save $$$ and afford a vacation every now and then buy a Toyota.

I couldn't disagree more with you. My last car was a Toyota Lite-ace with around 180,000km (and only god knows if that was the first engine) - not a single issue.
Before a Mitsubishi Pajero with around 250,000km all around Australia and through the outback - not a single issue.
The list goes on. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I think that cars live a long time if well looked after. At least the good ones.
