1994 Land Rover Discovery SD review from North America

"Uglier than a Pathfinder, but a lot more comfortable and better off road"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Weird noise when it's in 4WD - switch fixed under warranty.

Light oil leak from the cylinder head which seems to be common on these engines.

General comments?

Not too long ago I bought this Discovery because I was looking for a comfortable and an extreme off-roader, and I also wanted to get rid of the Pathfinder.

My truck is in the same year when they were first launched in America. It really is in outrageous condition from inside and out and it is fun to drive on and off the road.

It does ride rough because of the off-roading suspension they setup in this thing. I'm pleased on how it corners despite the size, weight, and height. However I'm never that fast on corners because I have always been an truck person and I have always been aware of roll over risks.

The 3.9 V8i is an excellent and powerful engine for this truck. The pick up is acceptable. The 3.9 is much better for the Discovery than the Range Rover which I have also driven and that should of have a bigger engine because that is even much bigger.

I'm only getting 12mpg in mixed driving. However I get about 15mpg on longer drives.

My insurance did not go up that much as I thought it would when I got it. It's only a bit more than the Pathfinder.

The best thing about this truck is how it makes me feel and that is important and you do not need to abuse it to feel good.

The inside has a remarkable British feel, like it's an England rival which it is. As a matter of fact it seems to impress many people of all ages which to me is good.

What I do not like about it is that it has limited leg room.

Bottom line. The Discovery is a fantastic truck. I always wanted one of these and it meets my standards.
