1995 Land Rover Discovery review from Australia and New Zealand
"Regardless of my grumbles will buy another Discovery."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Original shock absorbers replaced twice early in ownership
Most rubber replaced, including window seals early in ownership.
When one tyre was ruined, the whole ream of tyres had to be replaced because the type was not manufactured here.
Has already blown a headgasket
already has oil leaks that are expensive to repair
fuel gauge repaired twice
gear column lights do not work
indicator lights unit replaced twice.
Small things like the little plastic plugs, that cannot be helped by road service and inconvenient to purchase other than going to a main town.
General comments?
It is very comfortable on long journeys although with the problems I have had I am not sure I would travel the outback of Australia in it as I would in, say a Toyota.
The vehicle is still a pleasure to drive and I will buy another one so glutton for punishment but I still love the vehicle.
Maybe the back seat should have a centre arm rest for comfort.
The air and fuel filter need constant attention to get that lift on taking off from a standing start
My car is not an offroader and has never been driven on rough roads.
I already have two land rover work horses for that type of work
So this vehicle has cost more in the few years I have had it than the Land Rover Series 3 I bought in 1976 and which I still own and is still registered.
The only cost on that one is normal running and an engine rebuild five years ago worth $4ooo. So in comparison, although I do not have the dockets, the old one is so far ahead as far as maintenance costs the discovery will take a while to beat it.
