1998 Land Rover Discovery SE review from Australia and New Zealand

"Excellent vehicle, hope you own an Oil Rig.."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have not owned the car for a long period of time, thus have not had a great deal go wrong with it.

The Stereo system is woeful with speakers that distort and crackle quite easily (will be replaced soon!)

There are a few very minor Oil leaks, but honestly this is more of an expectation for a Land Rover, none of the leaks are a cause for concern.

The only other issues is a very small vibration noise coming from what I believe is the transfer case shifter housing (the smaller gear knob in front of the main gear selector) I think that some of the plastics are scraping together. Nothing else as yet, so I'm still smiling!

General comments?

Very Comfortable and well laid out interior, that has the driver in mind.

Although it is does feel a bit 'low rent'

The seating position and the overall driver experience are second to none and is one of the primary reasons for the cars purchase.

The exhaust note coupled to the V8 burble is fantastic and gives the car its true Land Rover spirit, you just can't find that in an American or Japanese 4WD.

Off Road ability is good, although I have been only 500 meters up a track only to be out stumped by the laws of nature. Two tonne car + Steep incline + Mud = NO Forward Movement!

Overall I am pleased with the car and so far have not had any 'issues' or problems that others talk of. (maybe mine wasn't a Friday afternoon car)

A secondhand 4WD bargain if you can service the vehicle yourself or by a local garage
